The Banner
The banner is the mostly viewed graphic and/or text on the web site. If provides a visual cue and character for the site. It also acts as a graphic button to link you back to the default page for your web site.

The Logo
The logo also provides a visual cue for the site. If anything it should be thought of as your branding grpahic. It also acts as a graphic button to link you back to the full size logo page for your web site.
